I see it all the time, all over the internet and the newspapers…. ads that scream “English bulldog pup for sale! ” Yet very few of these future English Bulldog owners understand how and where to find the healthiest pet for themselves and their family French bulldogs for sale
. As a retired professional dog trainer and breeder, I can tell you first hand that not every English Bulldog breeder is equal, and the lack of proper knowledge and insight can lead to many problems down the road that can not be cured by specialized training. So listen up, the happiness of you and you’re pet just might depend on it.
The first thing that must be noted when looking for any breeder but with English Bulldogs in particular is the personality of the breeder. Any Dog has a tendency to absorb the personalities of their owners and their parents, especially English Bulldogs. English Bulldogs can have a dominate streak, and this can only get worse if their parents where that way as well… meaning a breeder who doesn’t know how to properly train English Bulldogs.
The next thing to note is whether or not you want to have a mixed English bulldog or a pure bred Bulldog. Don’t jump at just any ad titled “English Bulldog pup for sale”, this will only lead to trouble and an incredible waste of time. If you’re looking strictly for a pure breed, then make sure you know ahead of time that the parents of that litter were pure breed to start with. You can then take it a step further and make sure that the little comes from a champion stock, and that they have certified pedigree certificates.
Last but surely not least is to look for any possible health problems that might affect you’re English bulldog in the long run. You can usually (and with great effectiveness) gauge any possible health concerns by looking at their parents, and the parents of their parents. Look for any possible aliments or past health issues that the entire bloodline might have had, and you should be able to get a baring on future concerns for your pet.
Now I can not stress to you enough, that this article is simply a small start when it comes to the research that you should do before you go pick up you’re wonderful English bulldog puppy. English bulldog’s are a breed that needs to not only be trained in a specific way, but require that novice & intermediate buyers get some sort of guide before they go out on their own. I can not stress this enough get a guide! Get a guide! The happiness of you and you’re pet depend on it. If its name is French Bulldog, it must be from France, right? Well, maybe yes, maybe no. It seems that back in the 1800s in England, before the industrial revolution, women in lace factories (particularly in Nottingham) warmed their laps with a small dog. Many of these dogs were small, or Toy Bulldogs.
When jobs in lace factories began to dry up, many of the displaced lace workers immigrated to Normandy where lace-makers were still in demand, and they took their small bulldogs with them. These small dogs became popular with the Paris ladies who worked in the pleasure industry. Apparently, walking with a small bulldog on a leash was a good way to attract customers. While some people may think a Beabull is some kind of hybrid creature created from a bee and a bull, they will be happy to learn that this is simply not the case. Although the name sounds a little strange, Beabull puppies are actually the result of mixing a Beagle with a Bulldog. It should be mentioned, however, that this is still a form of a hybrid creature. Many people would just call a Beabull a mutt, but this name doesn’t really apply to this kind of dog. A mutt is generally referred to as a dog that has a lot of different breeds in its family tree, while a hybrid is the mixing of two purebreds.
While the Beabull is not a recognized breed according to the American Kennel Association, there are plenty of people out there who would happily disagree. Many people are purchasing Beabull puppies these days as designer and hybrid dogs become more and more popular. These dogs are also rather expensive, so the breeders couldn’t really care less about the American Kennel Association’s decision. Everyone loves a Beagle and a Bulldog, so the theory behind the Beabull is combining these two breeds to create a super-breed. By creating a new dog from the top traits of the Beagle and the Bulldog, breeders generally end up with something better than their beginning product.
As mentioned briefly before, the Beabull is part of a new craze over the past ten years or so in the increased popularity of designer dogs. These are dogs that are bred strictly for the purpose of creating something unique and special. Many people like to have something no one else has in their town, which is what has led to the increased popularity of breeds such as the Beabull and the Puggle. When you mix a Beagle and a Bulldog, the idea is that you will get the best traits out of both of the source breeds. You may get a Beagle that is more respectful and less hyper, or you may end up with a Bulldog that is not as lethargic and passive-aggressive.
